AMETEC TRAINING COURSE ON ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLING

This is a preliminary announcement of a training course planned by AMETEC to be held in the KORDI South Sea Institute from June 3 to 25.

Marine environmental sampling is required in programmes to assess both general spatial and temporal environmental trends, and the impacts of "catastrophic" events such as major oil spills. The objectives of this course are (i) to introduce laboratory personnel and middle managers to the concepts underlying marine environmental sampling, and (ii) to teach the techniques used to sample sediment, water, and biota, and to identify and eliminate potentially confounding variables.

The course will consist of a series of lectures by experienced staff from KORDI, from North American laboratories and and HongKong City University, interspersed with "hands-on" sampling and laboratory analyses. The course will be funded by KOICA, APEC and KORDI
