AMETEC is a leading educational center, located at Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI), Geoje island, Korea, involved in education and training in marine environmental management through effective co-operation and collaboration between APEC economies.
AMETEC stands for APEC Marine Environmental Training and Education Center ( APEC=Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation ).
(1) To stimulate strategic thinking on marine environmental issues common to the APEC economies, and to serve as a forum for consultation and dialogue;
(2) To assist APEC economies in effectively addressing marine environmental problems to promote sustainable development through finding appropriate technical solutions and in strengthening their institutional capacity in marine environmental management;
(3) To assess, adapt and develop appropriate analytical methodologies for marine environmental studies in the APEC region;
(4) To serve as an avenue to strengthen marine environmental cooperation and collaboration among marine environmental institutions and organizations (both public and private) in the APEC region, and to promote technology transfer; and
(5) To complement the work of international organizations
A bi-annual short-term (3 weeks duration) and a long-term (6 months) training courses are offered to APEC economies. An annual scientific symposium on relevant themes is conducted.
